Aquatrainer

The Aquatrainer is a unique device used for rehabilitation and training of horses by means of walking in the water. This training method contributes greatly to the healing process of different injuries.

For the horse, walking in the water requires a lot of power as it walks against the pressure of the water, which means that the horses will use the entire body more. Both the speed and the water level of the Aquatrainer can be customised. As such, the training can be tailored to the needs of the horse. It uses cold water, which simultaneously cools the joints and tendons.

Whenever the horse walks in water, it experiences on the one hand the water's light buoying force on the body; on the other hand, the horse must displace the water through movement. When the water level is increased, the horse becomes "lighter" due to the water's buoyancy. As a result, this manner of moving the horse eases the burden on the joints and tendons. This allows horses with joint, tendon or bone problems to already start moving in an early stage of rehabilitation so that the muscles grow instead of degenerate and the horse can better maintain its balance.

Aqua training is also an efficient aid for back problems. The water's resistance necessitates greater movement from the hindquarters, because of which the horse tones its stomach muscles and makes significantly improved use of its back muscles with more shoulder freedom. In this manner, the horse can train stress-free until its back is supple and the horse is strong enough to carry its rider.

Here are some comments from experts in rehabilitation training for horses:

  • Training with slopes simulates the hindquarters, thereby simultaneously easing the load off the forehand.
  • Optimum training for the upper body area:
  • The back and neck muscles and hindquarters are activated (M. Longissimus Dorsi and M. multifidi, mainly in the lumbar spine area).
  • This affects the belly muscles
  • Additional muscular strength is obtained, therefore making it the perfect strength training
  • The horse's body posture is corrected without rider intervention
  • Cardiovascular system stimulation and improved endurance
  • The Aquatrainer can be continuously configured to an inclination from 0 - 10%, depending on the needs and abilities of the horse in question

The Aquatrainer can also be used as a “normal” treadmill. Then, the upper side (the belt) is not under water. Below the treadmill the belt is cooled by the water.

The Aquatrainer by Kylix is also available as a mobile unit.
For this purpose, the Aquatrainer is mounted on a chassis, a so-called tractor with trailer.
It is a completely self-supporting structure: Aquatrainer, treadmill, power unit, 3,500 litres of water in the water tanks, filter and massage jets, if present.
All these components are mounted on the tractor with trailer.
Dimensions of the trailer while driving: 8.0 m x 2.2 m, and a height of 3.2 m.
Trailer, extended: 14.5 m x 2.2 m.
Like all other Kylix products, this mobile combination will be designed in consultation with our customer.
